Demi Lovato Shares Stretch Marks Photos and Eating Disorder Recovery Update

Following their journey through the trials of an eating disorder, Demi Lovato took to Instagram to share a series of inspiring images embodying the beauty of recovery. The intimate photos captured the singer's thighs adorned with a golden shimmer, celebrating not only their eating disorder recovery but also their newfound love for their body.

In their heartfelt post, Lovato admitted their former skepticism towards the idea of complete recovery from an eating disorder. They revealed how they used to suspect everyone of concealing relapses or faking their progress. The singer confessed their previous thoughts, 'She must still be purging occasionally', or 'It's impossible that she has accepted her cellulite'.

However, Lovato is now at a point in their life where they are choosing to accept and honor their body rather than fight it. Their glitter-infused photoshoot stands as a testament to this change of heart. Instead of feeling embarrassed by their stretch marks, the singer decided to paint them with glitter to celebrate every feature of their body, regardless of societal standards.

Emphasizing the importance of embracing one's individual features, Lovato added, 'I am genuinely thankful to be able to say for the first time in my life - my dietitian told me 'This is what eating disorder recovery looks like.''

Lovato has never shied away from discussing their journey to recovering from an eating disorder and the shifts in self-perception that come along with it. At the 2019 Teen Vogue Summit, they reflected on the idea of not just loving their body, but also accepting it and feeling thankful for it. "We often hear about the concept of body positivity," they said during the event. "Truthfully, my feelings toward my body are not always positive. There are times when I don't appreciate what I see. However, I don't sit and fret over it. Nor do I deceive myself.... What I can say is 'I am in good health.' In making this statement, I am expressing gratitude."

Fast-forward to 2020, and Lovato is still practicing body acceptance. "My stretch marks aren't going away so might as well throw a lil glitter on 'em amiright?" they wrote on Instagram.

Lovato concluded their message by addressing those who may be grappling with an eating disorder in the midst of this challenging year 2020. Lovato penned, "This year has been a test of resilience. If you stumble, treat yourself with kindness and remember to promptly get back on your journey because you DESERVE THE GIFT OF RECOVERY."
