Rebel Wilson On How Life Has Changed Since Her 77-Pound Weight Loss

The Pitch Perfect star chronicled her "Year of Health" journey on social media, beginning in early 2020.

Australian actress Rebel Wilson has been candid about her transformative "Year of Health" journey that began in the previous year. The star has lost an impressive 77 pounds to date, a development she attributes to her focus on fertility and overall health.

"My life has taken a dramatic turn," shared Wilson during an interview on the Australian morning show, Sunrise. "I embarked on a fertility journey and realized the necessity of being healthier. I had issues with emotional eating. Last year marked a significant transformation for me - I shed about 35 kilos [77 pounds]."

She then remarked, "I visited my doctor last week for my annual check-up. His reaction was 'Oh my God, your lab results and blood work are the best they've ever been.' It's quite astounding." Wilson initiated her "Year of Health" in January 2020 and diligently posted updates about her progress on Instagram.

"I take pride in not just achieving my health goals but also maintaining them this year, amidst my busy schedule filming movies. I recently completed two back-to-back films," said the Pitch Perfect star during her appearance on Sunrise. "Transforming my life for the better was challenging but rewarding. After grueling 16-hour work days, my feet used to be extremely sore. I would have to invert myself and place my feet on the sofa. That doesn't happen now."

She added, "Also, coping with jet lag has become much easier. Earlier, it used to be a major issue for me."

Experiencing a rise in her overall vitality levels and a decrease in various discomforts, Rebel Wilson confessed that her transformation journey has brought about several advantages. Speaking on Sunrise, she admitted the unawareness she had of the inflammation within her body, realizing only after the change in her lifestyle.

Earlier, Wilson opened up about her battle with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), a condition affecting approximately 10% of women at reproductive age, primarily caused by an imbalance in reproductive hormones. In a past conversation with E! News, she elucidated how her weight gain escalated around her 20th birthday, attributing PCOS as the probable reason. "The manifestation of this hormonal imbalance in me was primarily rapid weight gain. It's disheartening sometimes, but I learned to leverage my body shape. I enjoyed being different sizes. As I turned 40, health consciousness grew on me and thoughts of family planning cropped up," she said in November 2020.

In an Instagram Live session in December 2020, Wilson announced her decision to freeze her eggs, tying it into her health journey. "Considering fertility and the idea of having quality eggs stored triggered me. This motivated me to get healthy," she added.

Just a month before her Instagram Live session, Rebel Wilson announced that she had achieved her target weight of 165 pounds, an entire month ahead of schedule. Her fitness regime included diverse activities like tire flip workouts and surf lessons, as well as the occasional arm workout with a hefty vodka bottle. One significant aspect of Wilson's new healthy lifestyle was not completely denying herself the pleasures of junk food, but enjoying them in moderation. As she shared with People, "I aim for a balanced, overall healthy lifestyle. I follow this state of mind - 'Nothing is forbidden'. So, if someone proposes we get In-N-Out burger, I don’t forbid it. I may just consume half of what I used to have. A burger and a few fries don't make me feel guilty." Even though Wilson is still adapting to the increased public scrutiny of her appearance, she insists that every woman is beautiful regardless of their size. She emphasizes that her "Year of Health" was less about weight loss and more about self-love. Speaking to The Daily Telegraph earlier this month, she said, "Being a specific size or weight isn’t everything. The journey is all about self-love. In my eyes, the most beautiful women are those who embrace their own power."
