Khloé Kardashian Reveals Why Her Mental Health Ultimately Comes First

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians also opened up to Health about her famous family, including her 3-year-old daughter True.

Reality TV icon, Khloé Kardashian, aged 37, recently shared her health philosophy with Health Magazine. She stressed the importance of holistic well-being, asserting that to achieve outer beauty, one must first focus on inner happiness. "Adopting healthy habits is a daily practice for me. I don't subscribe to fad diets or temporary fixes. I've moved beyond that phase in my life. It may sound clichéd, but it truly is about harmonizing the mind, body, and soul. If my mental strength wavers, it affects my physical capabilities. So, it's not just about physical appearance. The true measure of happiness radiates from within," she stated. Kardashian shed light on how she initially turned to fitness during her tumultuous divorce proceedings with Lamar Odom. She filed for divorce in 2013, which was finalized three years later. Although initially difficult, the cathartic release she experienced through exercise was invaluable.

Health and wellness hold a significant place in Khloé Kardashian's life, and she shares that it wasn't always easy for her. She admits to Health magazine that initially, her body had a tough time adjusting to regular workouts. However, the emotional and mental liberation she experienced was worth the physical effort. Khloé reveals she enjoys reading and spending time with her family, emphasizing her homebody nature being a Cancer sign. Her quiet moments are usually after her 3-year-old daughter True is tucked into bed.

As someone with 189 million followers on Instagram, tuning out external voices can be challenging. While social media platforms like Instagram offer both positive and negative aspects, it sometimes impacts her self-perception. Regardless of feeling good about herself, negative comments or stories can dampen her spirits. Though it's strange letting others' perceptions affect oneself, especially when one knows their truth, it still happens to her. Earlier, such things didn't affect her as much, but now she consciously makes efforts to ignore this noise.

The author of 'Strong Looks Better Naked' admits that unhealthy food relationships and emotional eating were part of her past. She would often resort to crash diets after binging or consuming less healthy snacks. She recalls trying all kinds of diets, including Beyoncé's popularized lemon juice and cayenne pepper diet. This made her weight fluctuate throughout her life. However, when she started working out, she decided to make some lifestyle changes. She focused on incorporating one healthy change at a time, like cutting out sugar for a week and then for a month, gradually building up more healthy habits.

Despite her ongoing battle with weight and dieting, Kardashian understands the challenges many women face when they go shopping. This is why she's committed to promoting size inclusivity in her clothing brand, Good American. She believes that all women should feel beautiful and accepted, regardless of their clothing size.

"I met my business partner, Emma Grede, through my mom. We started talking about clothes and how I had always felt left out," said Kardashian. "My weight has fluctuated. At my heaviest, I was a size 14 or 16, which is very common in the United States. However, even within my own family, I felt excluded. Not by them, but by shopping trips where I couldn't find my size."

Kardashian revealed that she and Grede have even declined profitable offers from certain retailers who wouldn't stock their full range of sizes. "We created Good American with representation and inclusivity at its heart," she stated. "It wasn't a trend we were trying to cash in on. It permeates our products, our diverse team, and our Good Squad [brand ambassadors]. We aim for complete representation in every aspect."

Although there were times when Kardashian felt alienated during shopping trips with her sisters, her family bond remains unshaken. This was especially crucial during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kardashian's daughter also learned valuable lessons about the significance of family during this time, further reinforcing the importance of their tight-knit support system.

"Despite the restrictions imposed by COVID-19 and lockdown measures, my family has stayed connected. My daughter was able to interact with her cousins who were her only companions during this period with no recreational classes or outdoor activities," shared Kardashian. "Growing up, we were always taught that family is paramount. We might have disagreements or disputes but the idea of not speaking to one of my sisters is beyond imagination." In her conversation with Health, she added, "We're nurturing a bond between the cousins that's almost akin to siblingship. It's natural for them to have differences of opinion. We encourage them to express their feelings and ensure they feel validated. But being aloof or not communicating with each other is simply not an option for us." For Kardashian, like all in her clan, family is of utmost importance. The challenges presented by life or the recent pandemic have only brought them closer together.
